                          FLORIDA LIGHTNING

A woman in Florida was struck by lightning after a severe thunderstorm had passed through. She went into the yard to check animals in a pen. When she got near pen gate, lightning stuck her, throwing her several feet. A neighbor immediately administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation but could not revive her and called 911. EMS personnel were unable to resuscitate her, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man in Florida was struck by lightning while golfing at a driving range. The skies were clear but a storm was forming in the area. When emergency personnel arrived he had no pulse. On scene resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. He was transported to an emergency department, where he was pronounced dead.

Casualties are more likely to occur during the summer months and in open areas such as golf courses and playing fields, but lightning’s deadly strike can hit anytime during the year.Florida is indeed the lightning capital of the world.

Lightning strikes like these are a breathtaking sight,

but they can also be life threatening.

Scientists fired rockets into raging Florida thunderstorms and learned that lightning produces not just bright flashes and a lot of noise, but also intense bursts of radiation believed to be X-rays.
