In 1987, the american alligator became the official state reptile of Florida. A  boy was being dragged into a Florida lake by an 11-foot alligator. The alligator jumped out of the water, grabbed his foot and dragged him into the lake. He struggled but could not get free until he remembered some- thing he saw on the Discovery Channel about what to do if you are getting attacked by an alligator.The boy poked the alligator in the eye with his thumb as he was told to do on the television show .  His mom said that lesson saved her son's life.

A Florida neighborhood had a gator in the canal that everyone loved and considered a pet.  Someone killed it with a knife. It is a third degree felony to injure an alligator in Florida. Chris points out that the person who did this put their own life in danger getting close enough to do it. Chris fell out of his boat once trying to clean seaweed off the propellar and his return to the boat was just below the speed of sound.

Anytime you encounter an alligator and it grabs a hold of you and you walk away with minor scratches and bruises, you are an extremely lucky person. A  man in Florida was attacked by an 11-foot alligator as he stood in 3 feet of water. He was able to escape its jaws by punching the alligator in the nose several times.Trappers went out and caught and destroyed the bull gator, in accordance with Florida law.

A boy on a river canoe trip, got out to wade and was killed by an alligator. The first year Chris and Deane lived in Florida a girl was killed wading in the town where we lived. The parents were visiting and were not aware of the dangers.

An alligator dragged a swimmer underwater in a lake, but the boy punched the reptile and swam safely to shore. He was treated for cuts and scrapes that were not considered life-threatening.

Neighbors complained about an alligator to the Florida officials since they were worried about their children and their pets. But attempts to kill it were unsuccessful. The alligator ate the dog and a duck. One big Gator behind Chris and Deane's home took the officials many attempts over many weeks to get. A dog recovered after being mauled by an 11-foot alligator. The dog's owner wrestled the Gator until it let go of his dog. They were out playing catch when the dog ran into the woods after it heard a noise. A group of friends wrestled an 11-foot alligator to get the dog free.

A pastor in Florida recovered after being attacked and pulled under the water by a 6-foot alligator. The man was going for a morning swim in a nearby lake when he said he felt a gator bite him and then pull him under. He punched the alligator on the nose until he was released.

Southwest Florida woman was attacked by an 11-foot alligator as she was working in the garden. After surgery she died from infection caused by the attack. Officials killed the alligator in  accordance with Florida law.

A man was naked and high on crack when he was attacked by a 12 foot long 500 pound alligator. One arm was partially eaten and the other broken and both of his legs recieved severe injury. Four police officers waded into pitch black water in the middle of the night and pulled the man to safety.

Three women killed by Alligators in Florida in one week. Two women found on Sunday and a third women's body found on Wednesday. One woman,  a visitor, was attacked while snorkeling in a secluded recreation area. The second woman was killed by an alligator at a canal. The third woman was attacked as she was jogging near a canal bank and dragged into the water.

A man swimming in a canal was killed by a12-foot alligator. The man had a habit of swimming in the canal.The alligator was retrieved and killed by trappers and wildlife officers.

Deane and Chris have a friend who had a gator knock at her front door and it frightened her greatly. Gators do come out of the water and into people's yard and swimming pools. One of our next door neighbors had four small children and the gators came into all the yards on the lake. They had the rear yard fenced to keep the children safe.

A Florida man assaulted his girlfriend with a three-foot alligator during a domestic dispute. The man was charged with battery for smacking his girlfriend in the ribs with the gator.

        

It was dark out when an elderly woman took her dog for a walk. The gal slipped on wet grass and broke her nose and shoulder. She hollered for help but her children were out for the evening. The dog began barking and was fighting something. She could hear her dog hollering and getting hurt.Then all was quiet. About an hour later the kids came home to meet a dog going wild jumping and yelping.While the woman figured her dog was dead, the dog was full of puncture and bite wounds. The doctor cleaned up  and stapled the wounds and sent him home, saying he is a pretty brave dog to fight off a gator.
